Silent Auction for Low Vision Room

The Bedford Public Library has gradually been adding Assistive Technology for their low vision users after two successful Low Vision Fairs over the past three years. The next step is to have a room dedicated to the latest technology in the new library for low vision readers to utilize while at the library and in limited cases some of the technology will be available for check out.

On November 20th, the library will have some of the technology on display that through fundraising efforts by the Bedford Library Foundation will hopefully become a reality. Along with the display there will be a silent auction with all funds dedicated to purchase of equipment.

Refreshments will be served and we hope you will invite you friends for this special event. The Bedford Public Library is taking the lead and will be the only library in our area accommodating people with low vision and those losing their vision.

For further information, please feel free to contact Patt Dreyer at pattdreyer@sbcglobal.net.

If you place lots of holds then try this trick

Tired of having to re-enter your name and barcode number when placing lots of holds in one sitting? Then try this trick:

· Before searching a title log in to your account by using the My Account button from the toolbar in the catalog.
· Then select the Search the Catalog button from the My Account screen.
· This will take you to the main search screen and will indicate in red that you are logged in.
· Now start searching the catalog as you would for any item. When you get to the detail of a title place your hold.
· When you select the Hold button the hold will be executed without you having to login again (that's because you're already logged in).
· You can continue to search the catalog and place successive holds without having to re-login.
· As long as the red “You are logged in” message appears at the top of the screen you can place holds without having to re-enter your information.
· There is a button to return to your Patron Record if needed.
· When you are done it is always a good idea to log out of your patron record by clicking on the Start Over button.

Remember, that holds can only be placed on items that are currently checked out or items that are on order for the library.

- Search for hourly or part-time positions.
- Search for jobs in specific categories such as Accounting and Finance, Construction/Trades, Government/Military, Hospitality/Travel, Law Enforcement/Security, Non-Profit/Volunteer, Retail, Sales, etc.
- Allows for easy browsing of positions in WorkInTexas without a mandatory prior registration.
- Federal Contractors with Veteran Preference and Work in Texas positions are clearly noted.
- A general search will list all jobs within the category as well as the employer. Click on the position’s title to see the full job description.
- Job listings are updated daily.

JobView can be used on any of the public computers in the library (just click on the desktop icon) or you can access this resource from home.
