Summer Teen Tutors Needed

Do you need CAS or NHS hours? The library can use your knowledge as a Summer Teen Tutor.

We are in need of teens, ages 14 to 19, who like children, books, libraries, and fun. Teens who want to participate must have a 3.00 GPA or higher, or be working on CAS hours, NHS, or another Honors program. You will be tutoring children as well as helping out with the Summer Reading Club activites.

Submit a short essay of up to two pages, either handwritten or typed, about why you want to be a volunteer tutor. These essays will determine who will be selected to become a tutor. Turn in your essays along with a completed Emergency Notification form to the Youth Services Desk by May 15.

If you are accepted, we will give you a call.

Bedford Public Library Receives Grant from the Texas Book Festival

The Texas Book Festival has awarded the Bedford Public Library a literacy grant of $1,500. The grant will be used to support Library Buddies: Free Tutoring @ the Library. “This grant will enable the library to provide hands-on learning tools for use during tutoring sessions,” said Maria Redburn, Library Manager.

“Our teens are very conscientious about the success of their students,” said Jeanne Green, Community Services Supervisor. “These teaching aids will just make the tutoring sessions that much more meaningful for the tutors and the children.”

We are excited to have received this grant which will help us to enhance our already popular tutoring program.
