I like the new layout of the inside of the library, but would recommend moving the drive-thru book drop further away from the walkway for pedestrians. Based on the expectation that the entrance is on the south side of the identified location, I don't think consideration for people parking and walking into the facility was addressed properly. IMO, kids and seniors should not feel threatened by proximity of moving vehicles as the get close to the building.

  2. Thank you for taking the time to post a comment on the new library layout. Unfortunately, due to the elevation levels on the north side of the building and the location of the transformer, we are unable to move the drive-thru book drop. However, the entrance to the new library is located on the center of the west side. If you look at the layout, you will see an A with an arrow and that depicts the main entrance into the library. The door on the northwest corner by the drive-thru book drop is an emergency exit for the meeting room, but will not be used as an entrance for pedestrians. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

  4. Until the geothermal mechanical system is designed, a date cannot be set. Keep reading the blog for the breaking news on the library project.

  5. I can't wait to bring my kids once you are open. It looks like so much thought went into these plans. They are going to LOVE it!

How many more wonderful books and media are you all going to be able to fill all those new shelves with?

Besides geothermal, does the city plan to use any other green energies?

Lastly, what will happen to the old library once this one opens up?

    Thanks!

  6. I am so happy that you like the design. A lot of work was done by our library patrons who attended Focus Group meetings and Library Design Workshops to achieve a plan that would meet the future needs of citizens. The new library will have the capacity to hold 125,000 items. The library currently has around 100,000 items. The new library will allow the collection to grow, but that will take many years to accomplish. We are fortunate to have an active Friends group and Foundation that are working to help supplement the existing budget.
